'The Wake'. Yes. This truly wakes us up. We truly appreciate the talents of this man. Ex'O offers us an amazing hip hop record that will indeed go down in time as a classic. Handling all production himself as well as providing a range of themes all through the album, this is a superb listen and we are definitely on the lookout for his next batch of goodness. Port Harcourt super producer Illgod teams up with L.A.C.E for this power packed sound rendition. Over 6 tracks, the duo showcase an understanding of the task at hand and they rightly deliver. If you are still down for that boombap sound experience, this EP fits that mold. L.A.C.E seems to rap with his heart on his sleeve and he allows himself to be vunerably expressive. This is a really good listen and hopefully we get more from the duo.

The Illest is a short five song EP that introduces a more lengthy collaboration between these two creatives. ODC pens down and delivers his raps in rhythms that show deep Hip Hop influences but still sounds very much West African. It is the first of three tapes by the duo with MHP just appearing via instrumentaion. ODC beautifully paints the picture of a striving Nigerian youth with his lyrics in a very fascinating way. The record is very timely and unique. There are not a lot of records like this out here. A definite recommend.

Over five original songs and a remix, Timi Kei takes us on a journey through his thoughts with rhyming words. Not overly religious but definitely positive. This is a very commendable release in the African Boom Bap genre. The only drawback would be the length of the material but respectfully, we must allow creatives to create in their own time and space so we are not too sad about the length. The EP is professionally done and sounds like it could have great replay value.

Originally known by the moniker Aqbar, BigBoyEllis is what we hiphoppers call a 'compound head'. He demonstrates this expressively over this record. Backed up by close friend and comrade Walter 1ders, they conjure up jazzy grooves with rhythmically fitting hooks and lyrics. This is clearly a carefully put together sound experience for any listener. This is a high recommend from us.

BigBoyEllis wrecks our soundscape with the 'Copperfield EP'

An auditory voyage through sound carefully crafted by three active Nigerian creatives. Bionic the Soul King takes production duties on this album. Being and J.Ice assume rhyming duties and deliver pristine vernacular raps over Bionic's soulful beat chops. The contrasting styles leave a pleasing range for the listeners. The use of street slang is very appreciated. Given the influence of 90's Hip Hop as a whole on the African continent, hearing vernacular raps create a sense of familiarity for those of us that understand. It is a very tribal record and is definitely a highly recommend from our curators.

Two Nigerian giants offer us a 14 track masterpiece. Esoteric Mellow should not be slept on. Modenine still comes across as the legend he is. Crafting highly intelligent lyrics over TeckZilla's production, the result is a power-packed record with lots of replay value. Amazing times for African Hip Hop especially the BoomBap connoisseur. The album has some great features as well with verses from Canibus and Awkword.

Cape Town, South Africa has a certain vibration to it. It is a chilled and beautiful place and 'Soulful Knights' depicts that. Jedi Knight and Garth Soul take us on a voyage that clearly represents that 'Kaapstad' presence through different themes and creative ideas. They showcase a clear 'overstanding' of what Hip Hop is. The result is a very enjoyable and chilled listen. The album also features YesPlsNdThnkYou, Amy Brown, Mono Joe, DJ Ice Cue and Logikll Paradox. We super recommend this to any Hip Hop head out there.

Enji is a complete musician. His sound tastes are sometimes ahead of the pack and the brother occupies a nice pocket as he continues to push boundaries with his creations. 'Temporarily Out Of Service' is almost a euphoric listen and Enji switches from pidgin English to local vernacular with grace. The sounds on this album are flawless and the producers came correct. Shout out to hitmaker Orbeat and Enji who also doubles as producer too. The result is a wavy soulful, R&B, afrobeat and Hip Hop record. A super recommend from us.

Orion Blades crafts a very full and nourishing sound offering with his Recycle Binge mixtape. The 16 minute voyage takes us from soulful Hip Hop to Afrobeats and right back to boombap Hip Hop. He glides through these themes smoothly as he conveys his thoughts through his ryhme schemes as he displays the consciousness of a West African youth. We definitely recommend. This is a dope record.

The Midnight Philosopher rings off very much like a team effort of sorts. This plays to the strengths of the record. Aaron Billz creates champion sound aesthetics and Big OG carries the tunes amazingly well. The combination shines on tracks like 'Inner G' and the chemistry is very evident. They made sure to cover different sound pockets and the result is very outstanding. The album features a host of amazing talents that include Jerry Adams, Nazywrite, Dessy Bengold, Gotheeq, Layze Eyes, 3yga Jermaine, Aise Maryah, Seraph The Arch Emcee, Pharuna, Ill Jackz and Smokez the illest emcee. Yugen Blakrok is much more than just your regular emcee or rapper. She has been actively churning out her creations for over a decade. She is one of South Africa's greatest hip hop exports by many standards. 'The Return of the Astro - Goth' is our little introduction into the many worlds and creations from this lyrical goddess. The album has a sample heavy, boombapy backdrop with supreme alchemy lyrics sprinkled over it. It features Likwid Skillz, Robo The Technician, Alkabulan, Kanif and Shorty Skills.

The Vinyl Effect can be regarded as the magnum opus of the duo G.AB. and Rapsom'. The album was recorded in Port Harcourt, Nigeria which seems to be a hot bed for lots of thriving creatives. Rapsom' exclusively handles all production on the album and sometimes double as an emcee. G.A.B teams up with him and primarily contributed with hot lyrics. The chemistry between these brothers is quite evident and the result is some of the finest African Hip Hop ever created. If you like that underground and boombap sound, then this records fits like hand in glove. The album also features Rhyme Masta Richy, Kappa and LP(short for Lyrical Postman)

Born and raised in Maputo, Mozambique then later moving to Nelspruit, South Africa before touching down in Cape Town, South Africa. Blaze 5th is a modern metropolitan african. A rapper and producer with a fascinating alter ego known as Lion Green. The man is a super creative. The album pays a huge homage to the green plant marijuana. It features Postman L, Mila Paco, Bonzaya, The Luminous Being, Chef4Souls and Blackson.

The Age is another album from the catalogue of Ngodwayne. It depicts a certain time in his life where he and his friends actively created new sounds and vibes pretty much all the time. Some of us were lucky to have been around his circles to witness him create. Now we still get to hear and be inspired by his work even with time passed. The Quenstown creative collaborates with Thusitse, Linch and Marvin on this album. Definitely fits a nice chilled indoor Saturday listen if you're open to that sort of thing. Looking forward to more from him.

Odumodublvck shines hard on this album. He takes us from Drill to Afrobeats on his Odiegwu record. It is apparent that he is very talented with the calibre of tunes he has put together on this album and we are extremely excited to follow him on this journey. It is early days for the genre now known as Afro-drill and Odumodublvck sits nicely in that pocket of early pioneers. The album features Agunna, Reeplay, Payper Corleone, Laxy BBK and BlaqHouseGang. Enji is a producer, singer and rapper from Nigeria. The Shinanigami EP is a full record that deserves more props than it is getting. We proudly highlight this EP as an introduction into the creative genius of Enji. The Shinanigami EP features Jimanni and Chop Boii. We will definitely keep showcasing his work and support his journey. This is a strong recommend from us.

'The Return of the Beast' has been cooking for a long minute and we are glad that it is finally released. Vokulz (formerly known as Double K) has been active for more than a decade. With early days trailing back to the super group known as Tuck Tyght (pronounced as Talk Tight) that ran the air waves in Port Harcourt, Nigeria in the early 2000's, the simple fact that Vokulz has an album out right now is such an amazing feeling for some of us who have been keeping tabs. This album showcases his range and depth. He raps on all kinds of beats and instrumentals. A true professional emcee and the album is simply amazing. Vokulz is very thorough and we are very much entertained. The album features production mainly by Juve along with Billy Dolomite (who also double contributes with a verse appearances), Wild Face and MHP. He also features Mr Robinson and Teddy Flourish. We hope to hear more from him.

The EP features Maglera Doe Boy, lordkez, Bontle, Marcus Harvey, Blxckie, Zoocci Coke Dope and Lady Du.

Deliberately niche, Mic Dailie teams up with a gang of Nigerian BoomBap producers to churn out this highly creative material. Notable names on the album run from G-Lynx, Modenine,  Jonah tha Monarch, XYZ, SBK, T-Rex, JSP, MHP(unamed on the original tracklist) and Uzi Quality. This man deserves his flowers.

We set our ears and sights on a Zimbabwean creative by the name of Synik. An emcee/rapper and a wordsmith, Synik gives us a well rounded project. The album is a very introspective and emotional trip. An exceptional African record with songs that clearly showcase his roots he serenades us with sweet tunes in African vernacular. This is a highly recommended listen. We look forward to following him on his creative journey. It is very obvious that he is a talented musician.

Queenstown multi-instrumentalist, rapper, beatmaker and producer, Ngodwayne is a complete package metropolitan Hip Hopper. Foundation is a 16 track offering from his catalogue. Ngodwayne currently resides in Cape Town, South Africa and habitually continues to perform on Hip Hop hot spots in the city. We will continue to keep tabs on this super creative and follow his journey.

'ARIES: a Precursor to HEARTBREAK HOTEL' is a sound masterpiece. The young man known as The Big Hash delivers a spectacular sound performance throughout the record. Working with stellar producers who must all be named: Flex The Ninja, Doou$hi, Yolophonik, J-6ix, Season98, P.U.M, AmoBeatz and Elizee, the sound result is grown, sexy, R&B and Hip Hop. Shout out to the homie Lionel for putting me on to this record. The album features YoungstaCPT, Blxckie, FLVME, Ayanda Jiya, DaVionne and Rowlene. We highly recommend this. It's such a good album.

The album is now considered classic and although it might be under the radar for some, it is still a go-to album for some listeners. We are proud to show off "The Grey Area" and everyone that was a part of the creative process. It is also notewhorthy that most of the creatives on this project come from the city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The album features MC Lace, MCC,  Illgod, Khaleeb Utsunami, Bix F, Mic Priest, Fragile Dogubo, Jus Tis and the great Timi Kei.

We take a deep dive into this masterpiece from two Nigerian creatives. Daboomsha and Stoute Louis collaborate and deliver a nostalgic sound that reminds us why we love Hip Hop. The album is actually introduced by the legendary Modenine and as expected, it is packed with boom bap sounds from start to finish. Stoute Louis doubles as Earl Hickey and produces the whole album. This is an amazing piece of work that deserves a lot of love than it is getting.

Much is to be said of the Holstar. A Zambian creative, music executive and African music champion. Holstar gives us a concise heartfelt EP that is packed with strong features that include Jay Rox, Yung Verbal and Luwizzy. A modern African, he serenades us with tunes in vernacular. This would totally fit in the afrobeats genre. We're very impressed with the sounds on this record. African music is truly in the right hands. We will continue shinning the spotlight on his creative genius. The sounds on this will definitely do well with the ladies.

Two creative jaggernauts make magic for just over 10 minutes with this one. They conjure some supreme creative alchemy as they deliver a fabulous listening experience. Seun Kuti holds his own spewing some proper pidgin Nigerian vernacular and Black Thought (of the American Hip Hop group The Roots) shines reasonably bright with his top notch lyricism and delivery. Overall this turned out really beautifully well and the music is really amazing. Give them your ears. This is high level music right here.

A refreshing listen of what can carefully be described as time-capsule music. Rapsom' showcases his high-level understanding of crafting beats and rhymes over this sixteen track presentation. This album is an intelligent listen with very cerebral themes. He uses fine samples to create an amazing collage of rap songs with clever verses and hooks. A very enjoyable listen and it also has some guest verses. This album gets a high recommendation from us. We will continue to keep tabs on this Nigerian-born producer and emcee/rapper and hope for more from his goodie bag of creations.

The Retro-Dub is one of the few albums from The SUBJECTS. Comprising actively of two members SecondSun and Sublime, this hip hop group has been around for a hot minute. In this album we get to witness a strong auditory performance from the group. The album features verses and beats from Rapsom', BigBoyEllis, GAB and Spontaneousbeatz (also known as Slick da Soul Singa). Check them out.

'Die Beat Vir My' directly translates to 'The Beat For Me' in English. Rimestein is an Afrikaans Hip Hop artist from Mitchells Plain, Cape Town and this is our introduction to his music. This is a chilled and laid back tune with purist Hip Hop elements all over it. A definite head banger for any inquisitive listener. We definitely recommend. Give the brother a listen.

Something has to be said about Port Harcourt creatives. They are all amazing. Not to throw any names around but that needs to said. Illgod and Timi Kei deliver us some 'Soulsoup' direct from their cookout. This is a fantastic Hip Hop record that by all standards considered, we can proudly say is a classic African boombap album. Illgod handles beat production and Timi Kei blesses them with fire verses, the result is undeniable. 'Soulsoup' is a top shelf record in this niche genre. Props to The Dell Records for their contribution.

This platform is for an album like this. 'Garden City Blues' is a colossal project. Greham crafts classy Hip Hop beats and Plasthic Slash lays clever lyrics over them. If you are unfamiliar with African accents and Hip Hop ideas then this is definitely recommended for you. The album is very full in terms of depth and range of sound and features creative contributions from Timi Kei, Dr Barz, Illgod, Being, Roth B The Maverick, MC Lace, Avid, Xplain D Don, MCC, Bix F, Smilez Danielz, Angelika_belle, Marley Abdul, Chuddy Hayes, The Murz, BlinQston and Fragile.

'Kunta The Long Weekend' is a strangely pleasing listen. iamMHP (also known as MHP) introduces us to a new rapper persona over his beat creations. There seems to be some alteration to his actual voice but the result is definitely far from terrible. The drawback would be the length of the recording but this seems like a worthwhile experiment of some sort and that in itself is the core of expressive creativity. The EP is the first in the Kunta series and definitely worth your listening. We definitely recommend this.

'Black Market' is a rap album by dynamic duo rappers President Jaga and Hitman. An album in which these creative Nigerians bombard our ears with crafty bars as they switch between each other in their verses. The result is a stellar piece of art. You can tell from the aesthetic of the album that these guys truly love to rap. This is a high recommend from us. Give them your ears.

West African Goat is an emotional, introspective and intellectual piece of art. PayBac Iboro delivers a truly modern record with a lot of themes. There is a sound for almost every modern listener today on the album. This is not his first rodeo and we would be remiss if we did not give this brother his props. The album literally flows smoothly from start to finish and features Barzini, Viveeyan, 3rty, Elveektor, Alpha Ojini, Ozone, Payper Corleone and Pizzo Da Lp. Show the man some love.

Some records stand out and this record just does. Brain The Tool teams up with South Korean producer OVtxtRY and they churn out a boombap masterpiece titled 'The BlackAsian: Rising is Imminent'. The record has that dusty sound which boombap enthusiasts are fond of and Brain The Tool rhymes over it like a samurai swinging his blade. Originally from Windhoek in Namibia, Brain The Tool eventually touched down in Cape Town, South Africa and continued to collaborate with other artists. This is a special find if you're into that underground boombap hiphop sound. We highly recommend this record.

'Sounds of Home' is an excellent listen. It truly sounds like Cape Town, South Africa to be completely honest. Very laid back, sultry and very Hip Hop at it's core. We are super excited to showcase this album. Jedi Knight raps over Methodmaticz beats with a very much appreciated 'Kaap' accent representing for Bellville, Belhar, Elsies River and so on. This is an amazing vibe when you listen to it. Super recommended.

The sounds are far and between but still carry the listener along on the sound voyage. This musical duo definitely makes sense and they showcase that with their sound releases. 'The Coin' is a single release courtesy Str8 Buttah Productions. Teck Zilla takes production duties as Alpha Ojini and Phlow conjure up top rhymes for a very exhilirating result. The sound is undeniable and this is a top recommend. If this dream team keeps forming like voltron, then we might be in for an amazing journey ahead of us. Synik serves us a personal experience with this release. 'Amber Room Concerts #2' is more than just an EP but an experience in itself. The Zimbabwean native keeps raising the bar and we are very much appreciative of this special collection of performed songs. The combined effort it took to put this together needs to commended. The band players came super correct and this is very enjoyable. Shout out to Karlos Rosten, Bruno Vieira, Ozeas Miranda and Tiago Joaninho. Respect to all the creatives involved and everyone at Sound Pressure Studios.

It was quiet Sunday evening in December 2022. I watched Vinnie Mak perform a live rendition of gems like 'Naninina' and 'Crucifix'. It was an amazing experience watching him and his guitar playing partner. They had us eating from their palms that night at 'Selective Live' in Cape Town. A blues singer and outstanding performer, 'Shades of Man' is a fine offering from Vinnie Mak. The sounds on this record range from soul to afro tech to electronic and the result is lush. We look forward to his future releases and definitely recommend. Please stream this aggressively with love.

Nigerian super creative King Stunna has us buzzing with this repeat worthy rendition. 'The Matrix' is definitely a vibe. No qualms with the length of the tune; easy solution - play it again and again. This song deserves all the love it is getting and more. We're keeping tabs on this brother. A top recommend from us.

This Nigerian duo should be commended. It takes a whole lot to go from concept to an actual product and this album 'Administer' came out really well. Lyrical Scribe and Moses Audu choose to give us a religious perspective through rap records and we truly appreciate it. The album features DJ Plenty, Edword, Malvina and Ellis John. It also contains some production from Illgod and iamMHP. Definitely check them out.

Multi-Award winning music producer and songwriter Shooterkhumz seriously over delivered on his album 'I Was Overthinking This'. In this modern spectrum of varying new sounds, his sounds are like a breath of fresh air. His production shows a lot of range from Soul, RnB and Hip Hop. He seems to just know how to create his own pocket in a beautiful way. The album features other creatives like Die Mondez, Priddy Ugly, ZuluMecca, lordkez, Tyler Linkman, Marcus Harvey, Mars Baby and OLOTU. Stream this and massive shout out to STAY LOW Management.

Marmalade is a fine introduction into the mind and creativity of Phlow. She takes us on an introspective journey with her potent rhymes over really sick beats. The EP is top level no doubt. It features Alpha Ojini, PsychoYP, Cheque, Tomi Owo and Blaqbonez.

The city of Port Harcourt in Nigeria once again gives us a gem of a record. 'Incipit Vita Nova' is stupendous album of high standards. Illgod cooked some hot sauce beats and Xplain D Don flung his OG rhymes all over the porridge. The result is quite outstanding. The album features Bix F, Being, Avid and Timi Kei. A top recommend from us.

Second Sun is a member of the Hip Hop group "The SUBJECTS" out of Nigeria.  He put together a fine 8 track Hip Hop album. His creativity and wordplay shine throughout the album and the chemistry is evident especially with features with group member Sublime. This is an amazing album with production from Illgod, Black Intelligence, Aaron Billzz and Rapsom'. The album also features other creatives like Agefelo, Sublime, Danas, ILLMastah Chief, iamMHP, BigBoyEllis, Maka and Avid. This is a concise mental listening experience.

'Reveiller Le Flow' by Amon Raamodon is our first showcase from the francophone Hip Hop community. 'Reveiller' in English means to 'wake up' so I want to make a strong guess that 'Reveiller Le Flow' could mean 'Wake Up the Flow'. This is a strong boombap tune and we are here for it. Amon Raamodon is a Gabonese international and I just got hip to his amazing music catalogue. This is strong recommend from us. 'Reveiller Le Flow' also features King Sekess.

'C.R.E.A.M' obviously draws some inspiration from Wu Tang Clan's song of the same name howbeit the sound direction is different and very plush. This is a sweet song for any listener or connoisseur of music in general. Oba Lurge and Pizzo Da LP definitely know what they have just dropped on us. The confidence shows and we are here to enjoy and support them. This is an amazing single. Top recommend from us.

"You Can See The Cracks" is an emotionally jazzy West African rap rendition by Brotha Pollock and Mxps Rellington. The album comes off with a lot of depth and the result is very commendable. Hopefully we can get more records from this duo. Brotha Pollock's beats are dripped in soul gold and Mxps Rellington tells his poetic street tales with an attitude that truly depicts the Nigerian thinking youth. This album is a gem and features Tafa Truth, Darc'Hedge, Sun Sedek and Stepping Wolf.

Jedi Knight combines forces with R.E.Z.A for this boombap bar-fest. The result is a rhyme packed head banger over a fantastic instrumental. The extra sample bites comes off beautifully and this is most definitely a top recommend. Stream this!

First off, let's just get this out of the water. Tay Iwar sounds amazing. His recent offering 'Summer Breeze' feels like soft winds on your face on a sunny day. The album features some of the most creative talents from the UK and the result is ridiculously amazing. Born in Lagos but raised in Abuja, this artiste has come such a long way and accumulated accolades I fail to mention here but his music definitely speaks loud and clear and in volumes. Give the man his flowers now. The album features Twelve XII, Juls, Knucks, IDK and Kojey Radical

It does not get deeper than this right here. These brothers came super correct with this fine release. Stormlooper's jazzy production perfectly compliments Supah Mpondo's rhyme style. They find a fine balance and the resulting sound is definitely dope. It still amazes me that this kind of HipHop music still thrives in Cape Town, South Africa. 'Unskippable Ads' also features Jedi Knight on the track 'Table Mountain'. 
This is definitely a top recommend from us.

'Rebel Muzik 3' is another addition to the swell catalogue of the Nigerian creative known as Daboomsha. The album is packed with positive affirmations and definitely falls into the Christian Rap category. The use of vernacular is super appreciated and enjoyable. This is a dope album without a doubt. A top recommend from us. The album is mostly produced by Stoute Louis except for 'King For My Lane' which is produced by Rapsom'. The features all came correct and must be named: Gann, Judahh, Lekan Salamii, Erick Nath, TGOD DaFlemSpitha, Francis, Pizzo Da LP, Hope Dealer, Brain and Pheel D'Word.

Not surprised with the showmanship and high level art they produced yet the final result is definitely outstanding.
